Do I need a license?
Yes, for nearly all use cases (like using DSSIM for, by, or on behalf of a company, government agency, or any organization).
Objective image quality assessment by simulating human perception.
About
DSSIM compares images and produces similarity scores that line up with human perception. It extends the SSIM algorithm with multi-scale processing and color/alpha channel support.
Use it for quality control on compressed images and to evaluate compression tools and vendors objectively. It ships fast C and Rust APIs for easy integration into your pipeline.
Commercial license
We use a standard license designed to survive enterprise procurement and an order form built by Heather Meeker, an IP attorney well-known in the open source community.
Purchase questions
Yes, for nearly all use cases (like using DSSIM for, by, or on behalf of a company, government agency, or any organization).
The license is built on Bonterms, a lawyer-vetted standard that most enterprise legal teams have already seen and approved. Redlines are rarely needed.
Unless cancelled first, annual licenses auto-renew. If you paid manually (e.g. a wire transfer), we will contact you before the renewal date to ensure your finance team pays on time. Please make sure your contact info is correct.
View the source on Github and it may be dual-licensed under a permissive copyleft license you can try for evaluation purposes before buying the commercial license your company needs.
If you have any other questions, please try our website's FAQ page or contact us through the contact page.
Why this matters
The vast majority of the purchase price goes to DSSIM to actually ship new features, fixes, review PRs, and answer security reports so you'll have better dependencies.
